Interview: Chicle De Anya

Anya Lloyd is probably one of the most creative
people I know. We constantly speak ideas, art and
fashion. She has such a unique style and I find myself
inspired by her time and time again. Therefore, it was
so exciting for me to hear she was planning on opening
a boutique here in Houston. It will definitely be what all
you Houstonians have been jonesing. So here is a small
dose to feed your need for that chicle de anya.




1. Background

Art is my first love. I've always been a creative 

kid, and always had a fascination with color and pattern. I would think of the craziest projects to do

 as a kid. So I continued with art all through school,
then went to HSPVA, and later studio art at UH. Honestly, I needed a change, and pursued my art in another form. I started interning with a local Fashion Designer, Chloe Dao (pre-Project Runway), while working with her is when I knew Fashion was my thing.

2. Inspiration/Aesthetic
First off, while I'm working, designing, or painting, music is
always on. Music is Major! ,especially Electronica. I get so inspired by the beats,and patterns they make in my head. When you see my clothes and art, you totally get that influence. My last collection was
called "Visual Noise," the name speaks for itself. Also, artist like Basquiat, Frida Khalo and Bjork are important to me. I'm also inspired by other things, random moments, kids jumping around, anything that involves a real spirit.

3. Chicle De Anya Boutique
In the end there's chicle de anya my line and boutique. It
has been an ongoing project in my head for the past 10 years. I
always wanted to have a place where all aspects of fashion and
art are involved. I think of the boutique as an instillation, a creative
outlet for other young designers to showcase their work. After visiting
awesome boutiques in London and New York, I thought, "I have to
bring this to Houston." Houston is filled with artistic people, and so many
young up-and-coming designers; we can be amazing. The plan is to open
August 9, at 238a West 19th st. in the Heights. Where you can find art-inspired
edgy street wear, from my hoodie to yours. You can purchase my line there,
and other local designers. You will definitely see more casual clothes than
dressier items. I mean, we don't want to dress up everyday, but still look cool, right?

Vent #1

My priority above everything is finishing this collection.
I don't want anything that represents me to... suck real bad. I
have high standards for everything I create.

The craziest part of everything is I made my first dress ever in December.
I mean I have been in the Fashion Design program since Spring 2006. My
passion has been styling and until December was everything I wanted. I really
like making things and choosing fabrics... I have spent more money on fabrics,
threads, trims, inks, and paper and NY then I have on clothes or shoes. :(

Our school has been really not cool to the collections class. First off, We have
to find our own models. We also have to find our own hair and make up people.
They also sold all the front row tickets before any students in the fashion department
even had a chance to buy any for our families. My parents have been the biggest support
system I have and it sucks that they cant get dibs on that. BOO!

I am pretty proud of the things I have made considering my experience. I love the
theme and I am hugely influenced by my surroundings, colors, and crazy awesome
sick patterns. I love the unexpected mixed with the expected to create something
you never expected to love.

This blog has really helped me archive all the things I want and can't
have. If I can't have them, someone else should, right??
But it goes beyond my materialistic side, it has helped me stay
inspired and continue doing and reading and researching the things I love.
Thank you to everyone who continues to visit this blog every day even
when I have not posted. :)

In Geological Fashion

Ever since I was a kid I have been fascinated with gems, rocks, and minerals.
I had a huge collection of petrified wood, fossils, minerals, and gems. Every year
in elementary school I would do the science fair and just display these beautiful
objects! Naturally, this led to my love of jewelry, as well.

I was always fascinated by the color and unique prints on every piece.
Each piece was your own to cherish forever. I was so happy to see that Etro
took inspiration from the mineral Agate for Spring 2008.








Agate is not just something beautiful to look at but it
is believed to have a variety of powers. It is pretty fascinating stuff.

If you are ever iffy about a certain color or a combination. Always look
to nature... if it happens in nature then it definitely works in fashion. So
don't be afraid of bright color combinations for Spring! Check out the rest
of the Etro collection for more color inspirations!

Fashion History: Yves Saint Laurent - 1962

I know some of you will enjoy this!

Proenza Schouler's Inspiration Board - Spring 2008

One of my favorite collections for Spring was by Proenza Schouler. Everything about it
was amazing. You can imagine my excitement when I found this in-depth article
about what inspired the collection.

I am a sucker for details and I am definitely inspired by this choice of prints. The collection
began with a Louise Bourgeois art book found during L.A. fashion week. We've seen the
safari look done plenty of times but they kept it updated with their choice of fabrics, colors
and shape. The silhouette introduced was a modern play on a 1940's Christian Dior shape.

I have to show my collection in May so I found seeing part of the design process
extremely helpful. Inspiration has no set time or place so I always keep a small notebook
for ideas. The end result is obviously worth all the effort and thought process invested.
