A Lesson in Old School
I grew up with three older brothers, all of which unknowingly
influenced me at the time. It's hard to wear dresses when you
are too busy wanting to do everything the boys are doing. My
brother Chris started b-boying when I was in middle school. I didn't
necessarily have any style then but there is only so much you can do
with a school uniform. I've always really loved the old school hip hop style.
No, I never wore shell toes nor did I trot around in track suits and beanies.
But since then and over the years, I have incorporated certain elements into
my style.
Dsquared's Spring 2009 collection caught me by surprise. The
brothers took inspiration from Jamel Shabazz's book Back In The Days.
Shabazz began documenting urban street stlye over thirty years ago.
I have always dreamed of a collection like this. Some of it was hit or
miss but over all the awesome pieces help me ignore the wack ones.
They might have used way too many gold chains too... But hey, it's
the thought thats counts.
Street Safari
I love the mix of texture and pattern.
I will have to make myself a gingham blazer ASAP

No Sleep 'Till Brooklyn
You know what is really painful?
Kneeling down and a pin sticking half way
into the center of my knee.
Yeah...
Sorry for lack of updates but I have been way
too busy stabbing myself with pins and making
things I never knew I could make.
I will update with more things soon.
I love going into my internship since I get to see
all these lookbooks for Spring/Fall 2008, and
trend magazines.
There are so many things I want to blog about but
I seriously need to stay focused on this whole graduating thing.
Here is some randomness:

IF I was in NY This Week...
...you would find me here.
Target First Saturday presents Japanimated!
Arts and Cultures of Japan feat. DJ Muro
Cosplay has gone mainstream, judging by this week's Target First Saturday. To kick off the Takashi Murakami exhibit, the Brooklyn Museum is throwing a Japanese-themed party complete with taiko drumming, screenings of two anime classics and a documentary about an ex-geisha, and a gallery talk about the museum's collection of Utagawa prints. The party gets louder later in the evening with performances by two local bands of Japanese origin, and a hip-hop, funk, and soul set by Japan's DJ Muro. The kicker, though, is the costume contest — come dressed as your favorite anime or manga character for a chance to win a copy of the © MURAKAMI catalogue.

Takashi Murakami, Hiropan
Japanese neo-pop artist
Takashi Murakami once said that Andy Warhol — to whom he's often compared — made art in order to distance himself from reality. Unlike Warhol, Murakami doesn't use his creations as cover-ups. He makes no bones about embracing pop culture in all of its gluttonous glory, designing handbags in collaboration with Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, making mass-produced tchotchkes, and beginning the title of his traveling retrospective with a copyright symbol. The Brooklyn Museum devotes two floors to more than 90 of Murakami's early works, from 1992 to 2000. But put away your checkbook — these pieces aren't for sale.

Peter Som CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund | Fall 2008
I still have a few more picture from fashion week...These are some
from the American Express sponsored Peter Som show. It was to help
raise money for the Council of Fashion Designers.
The collection included Spring 2008 pieces as well as a few from
the Fall 2008 collection which had been shown a few days prior.
Good Karma and Awesome Food At Peter Som
Those are John Varvatos.
Limited Edition Christian Lacroix Evian bottles. These were specifically designed for fashion week. There are two in my life now.
These blue velvet Christian Louboutins were all alone and posed just for me.
I peeked into Temperley and got a picture of these ladies scraping
the souls of the shoes so the models don't slip. It was painful to watch.
I will do a review on all of the collections I saw in the next couple of
weeks. Just kind of busy with school and figuring out how to move to
NY by the end of this year. Soul cleansing is mixed up in all that as well.
